I have begun to publish some of my works-in-progress here. I would really appreciate any feedback on them, good or bad, to help shape my writing skills.
Inspired by my summer abroad working in an American summer camp, this short excerpt is supposed to capture the fun of summer and being young. I have tried to extend this piece, make it into a story rather than a descriptive piece, but I simply can’t do it justice.
This was the final project of my creative writing module at University. I am an English and History graduate, and the second year of my history studies were largely focused on the impact of the slave trade, racism and culture in America. This story is inspired by what I learned in these modules, the many slave narratives that I read and the black literature that I have read since.
This story is narrated by the guilt stricken daughter of a plantation owner, a reflection on her past and her future. Originally this was started as a short story, but ended up being the opening chapters to a much larger tale, and is something which I plan to come back to, once I know what has become of Charlotte…
